As hiking becomes more widespread and a part of everyday life, it brings with it higher demands for knowledge, sound judgment, and responsibility. Yet passion alone does not automatically translate into competence, and risks often arise before sufficient experience has been accumulated.

It is precisely against this backdrop that SkyLe has joined forces with Hiking China to… 2025 In [year], the Outdoor Leader Development Program was launched.

As a professional in the field, witnessing such scenes truly reinforces my belief in nature’s power to heal the soul and relieve stress.

However, along with this surge in popularity, outdoor accidents have also been on the rise. According to incomplete statistics, in 2024 there were 335 outdoor adventure incidents, involving 1,126 people—92 injured, 84 fatalities, and 11 missing.

These are sobering statistics: far too many people, swayed by social media hype, vastly underestimate the risks of outdoor activities and overestimate their own abilities, leading to a disturbingly high frequency of accidents.

“Hiking China” takes it upon itself to “promote outdoor knowledge, share the wonders of the outdoors, and take you on a journey across the world.” Since launching its official WeChat account in 2014, it has consistently championed an outdoor ethos rooted in “science, safety, and environmental stewardship.”

In 2025, Hiking China will establish the “Hiking China” Outdoor Sports School and partner with the domestic gear brand Seeker to launch the “Outdoor Leader Development Program,” aiming to cultivate a large pool of qualified commercial outdoor leaders in China and thereby elevate the overall service standards and international standing of the country’s outdoor industry.

❏ Course Objectives

1. Be familiar with the basic duties, obligations, and competencies of an entry-level mountain outdoor instructor, and abide by laws and regulations.
2. Proficiently master the knowledge, skills, and techniques related to single-day (non-camping) mountain hiking activities, and apply them effectively to ensure the safety of the expedition team.
3. Possesses the organizational and management capabilities for single-day (non-camping) mountain hiking events, and is able to develop and implement event plans.
4. Possesses a strong environmental awareness and applies it during outdoor activities.
5. Possesses strong mentoring skills, effectively communicating sound outdoor principles to participants and imparting fundamental outdoor knowledge, skills, and techniques.

❏ Eligibility Requirements 1. Comply with all relevant national laws and regulations, maintain upright conduct, and have a passion for outdoor activities.
2. Must be at least 18 years of age and in good health.

❏ Training Certificate Participants who attend the training diligently and maintain a serious attitude will receive a Certificate of Completion for the “Basic Mountain Outdoor Instructor Training” issued by the Chinese Mountaineering Association upon successful completion. Upon successful completion of the assessment, you will receive an electronic certificate as a “China Mountaineering Association Junior Mountain Outdoor Instructor,” which can be viewed and downloaded from the China Mountaineering Association’s outdoor education and training platform under “Personal Center” → “My Certificates.”

❏ Equipment Description 1. Other auxiliary gear, such as sun hats, sunglasses, gloves, and headscarves, should be prepared according to your personal preferences and the season and weather conditions.
2. All equipment listed in the equipment checklist must be brought by participants themselves. This list specifies only the minimum essential items required for the training; personal items such as clothing, winter gear, and toiletries should be provided separately according to individual needs. During the training, any damage to or loss of shared equipment resulting from personal causes shall be compensated at the original purchase price.

Even as the number of people participating in outdoor activities continues to grow, many still fail to recognize that outdoor pursuits have always been high‑risk and demand a high level of skill and preparation. We repeatedly stress the importance of “safety awareness,” yet how exactly this awareness is cultivated—and how one can truly become proficient—can only be achieved through formal outdoor training.

Moreover, outdoor training offers far more than you might imagine. In short: it cultivates the mind and strengthens the body.
